Research Questions

CGS can answer questions about research methods and sources, but is unable to conduct in-depth research on your behalf. If you’ve hit a roadblock and need some advice or brainstorming as to how to continue, you are welcome to email us! Often, these questions make into the “Mailbag” column in the CGS Newsletter.

CGS can also answer simple questions for CGS members, such as “Can you find a death notice?” if the exact date is given. If you have a question about a specific person or family, we can also post your question as a Query in the CGS Quarterly. Other CGS members just might have the answer! To do this, please provide your name and postal or email address so that readers can contact you. Please note that we will need your permission to publish your name and contact information along with your Query. There is no fee to place a Query in the Quarterly.

If you mail your question, please include your name, address, phone number, as well as a self-addressed stamped envelope to receive a response.

Hire a Researcher

CGS also maintains an exclusive list of independent CGS researchers, whom you can hire to do genealogical research for you.
